Safety cases for special operations

For specialised operations or operations that don't fit under the existing Maritime Rules, the Director of Maritime New Zealand will require the operation to put together a Safety Case.

The Safety Case enables the Director to determine if the vessel is fit for purpose and the operation has safe operation and emergency response procedures in place.

Examples where a Safety Case is required include:

  • operations for jet skis that go beyond enclosed limits
  • submarines.
