At Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) it’s our mission to lead and support the maritime community to take responsibility for ensuring our seas are safe, secure and clean, on behalf of all New Zealanders.

I would like to give you an oversite of our core purpose and functions as well as give you an idea of what we offer should you join our team.

The ancient Maori symbol Te Manaia sits alongside MNZ’s name because the value it symbolises is guardianship, our core purpose. We work to make life at sea safer; to protect the maritime environment from pollution; to ensure New Zealand ports and ships are secure; to provide a search and rescue service that covers one of the largest search and rescue areas in the world; and to meet New Zealand’s obligations to international maritime codes and conventions.

Our values of integrity, commitment and respect guide and drive and an organisational culture dedicated to making a positive difference in respect to the maritime safety and environmental outcomes we are mandated to achieve

Our staff come from professional and ethnic backgrounds as diverse as our functions, with a tremendous range of knowledge, skills and experience. This makes us one of the most capable organisations in the New Zealand regulatory sphere, as recently demonstrated on the international stage with the response to the grounding of Rena. Leading a response effort was, and remains, a gargantuan task for any maritime administration, but it’s a challenge which we have met in an exemplary manner.

Our values of integrity, commitment and respect guide and drive and an organisational culture dedicated to making a positive difference in respect to the maritime safety and environmental outcomes we are mandated to achieve.

At MNZ you have the opportunity to be part of an intelligent, modern safety regulation and response organisation and to help us ensure that New Zealand’s maritime environment is safe, secure and clean. We offer you the opportunity to do this and make a real and tangible difference in a maritime organisation that is a world leader in its diversity and ability.

On a personal note, as someone who emigrated to New Zealand with my family as a child, I can’t speak highly enough of the lifestyle and opportunities that are available here. Coming to New Zealand could be the best thing you ever do - for MNZ and you!

I look forward to hearing from you.
