1 New Zealand passenger ship definition
A New Zealand commercial vessel that has passenger capacity of more than 12 passengers and, is either:
- 45 metres or more in length and proceeds beyond restricted limits
- is engaged on an international voyage.

2 New Zealand non-passenger ship definition
A New Zealand commercial vessel of 45 metres or more in length that proceeds beyond restricted limits, but does not include a New Zealand passenger vessel or a New Zealand fishing vessel.
