We will release updates to this data six-monthly, in May and November each year.
What’s provided?
All summaries of notifications of accidents, incidents and mishaps that have been made to Maritime New Zealand in accordance with Section 31 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994 and Section 56 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 from 1 January 2021 will be released in an open data format in accordance with the New Zealand Government Open Data policies.
Text description details of fatal accidents are not provided due to active investigation or coronial inquests.
If an accident, incident or mishap is notified to Maritime New Zealand more than once, it will only be reflected once in the data summaries.

Reporting summaries 2013-20
These summaries prior to January 2021 were prepared on a different basis. We have reviewed and released summaries of notifications between 1 October 2018 to 31 December 2020 and released these as part of the open data release. The original summaries are below. No further releases of notifications prior to 1 October 2018 will be made due to changes in the way these were recorded.
