Recognised surveyors

Surveyor, initial construction (IC)

A surveyor who is approved to survey the ship during construction or major modification. The IC Surveyor also has the capability to perform heeling tests, swamp tests and calculations, and initial load line surveys.

Surveyor, periodic (P)

A surveyor who is approved to survey ships after their initial survey. The P Surveyor carries out intermediate and renewal surveys.

Recognised design approvers

Surveyor, design approval (DA)

A surveyor who is qualified to evaluate the design and proposed construction of a ship and its equipment to establish whether it is fit for the purposes for which it is intended, and complies with relevant maritime and marine protection rules.

Other recognised persons

Authorised person

A person who has the appropriate technical qualifications and practical experience to inspect or audit maritime operations in accordance with the relevant maritime rules (Parts 40A, 40D and/or 40F).

Compass adjusters

A person who is appropriately qualified and is able to adjust compasses in accordance with the appendix of Maritime Rules Part 45.

Radio surveyors

A surveyor who is approved to survey a ship’s radio installation in accordance with Maritime Rules Part 43.6.
