The recognition framework

To survey ships under the Maritime Operators Safety System (MOSS), a surveyor must hold a Certificate of Surveyor Recognition.

The recognition framework outlines:

  1. the surveyor recognition categories defined by Maritime New Zealand
  2. the qualifications and experience required for surveyors seeking recognition to perform surveys of a particular category.

Before you apply for recognition, we recommend that you gain an understanding of the recognition framework and MOSS survey requirements first (see Before applying below).

Recognition fees

  • These rates are effective from 1 July 2019.
  • All charges are in New Zealand currency and include goods and services tax (GST).
