Consultation on HSWA Worker engagement, participation and representation (WEPR) guidance

Maritime NZ recently consulted on our draft guidance related to worker engagement, participation and representation (WEPR) under HSWA. We expect to publish the finalised guidance by the 1 July 2024.

Overview

The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA) says that persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) must engage with their workers about health and safety procedures and decisions in the workplace. They must have practices in place that allow their workers the opportunity to participate in improving health and safety in the workplace.

We are developing a suite of guidance related to worker engagement, participation and representation (WEPR). It includes:

  • Guidance documents for PCBUs explaining the legislative requirements and outlining ideas about how they might be able to comply with legislation
  • Guidance documents for workers explaining what they can expect in terms of WEPR..

Consultation details

The consultation ran from 27 May 2024 to 10 June 2024. The consultation period is now closed and we can accept no further submissions. If you have any questions about this consultation you can contact Maritime New Zealand.
