Update: search for missing fisherman – boat reported found

24 April 2018

The inflatable boat used by the fisherman missing since Thursday off the Karikari Peninsula in Northland was located on Saturday.

The inflatable boat was found upright on the water by another boatie around 10.30 am on Saturday. Its discovery was reported to Police this morning and the missing man’s family has confirmed the boat is the one he was using.

Rescue Coordination Centre NZ took over leadership of the search last night from NZ Police. The Royal NZ Air Force P3 Orion that had been searching this morning has been stood down.

RCCNZ is now deploying a long-range helicopter to conduct a shoreline search for the man based on drift modelling.

The Salt Air Helicopter from Paihia, with three Police observers on board, commenced its search around midday along the Karikari Peninsula.
