Providing fraudulent, misleading or false information relevant to the Director’s exercise of powers is an offence under section 406 of the Maritime Transport Act. The penalty for this offence in the case of an individual is imprisonment for a term of up to 12 months or a fine of up to NZ$10,000 and for a body corporate to fine not exceeding $50,000.
Collection, storage and use of personal information by Maritime New Zealand
To perform its roles and functions under the Maritime Transport Act, Health and Safety at Work Act, Ship Registration Act and Maritime Security Act, Maritime New Zealand is required at times to collect and use personal information.

There may be times when Maritime New Zealand is permitted by the Privacy Act to collect personal information from third parties.
