How to register a ship Part B ship registration

Part B registration is mainly for pleasure (recreational) vessels needing nationality for overseas voyaging. Read about the required form, fee and application process to register your ship under Part B.

What you need to do

To register your ship in Part B in the New Zealand Register of Ships, you must:

  • complete the Application for registration of ship (or renewal of registration) in Part B of register (form SR03)
  • if the ship has been registered in another country, obtain evidence from the foreign registry that the registration has been closed, for example a deletion certificate
  • send your completed application form and evidence of closure of any previous registration (if applicable) to Maritime NZ by email, courier, or post.
