Understanding the Maritime Transport Instrument MTI 404.210-1

What this maritime transport instrument does

Transport Instrument MTI-404.210-1 sets out further requirements in relation to the standards for radiocommunications equipment and procedures on vessels of less than 45 metres in length.

MTI-404.210-1 applies as follows:

  • section 5 applies to vessels to which rule 404.210(2) applies:
  • (2) Section 6 applies to vessels to which rule 404.210(1)(b) or rule 404.210(2) applies:
  • (3) Section 7 applies to vessels to which rule 404.210(3) applies.

 

Commencement

This maritime transport instrument comes into force on the same date that Maritime Rules Part 404 Design, Construction, and Equipment , New Zealand Cape Town Vessels and Foreign Cape Town Vessels comes into force.

 

Section 5 required standards to meet compliance

Section 5 of MTI 404.210-1 1 sets out the required standards to meet compliance for the following items:

  • MF/HF Radiotelephone fitted with Digital Select Calling (DSC)
  • VHF Radio
  • radar Transponder or Automatic Identification System- A system used by ships and Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) for (AIS)-SART
  • EPIRB
  • IMO recognised Mobile Satellite Service
  • automatic Identification System (AIS)
  • source of energy
  • clock
  • card of instructions
  • emergency electric light
  • documentation.
